World’s steel giant, Arcelor Mittal in collaboration with Grand Bassa Authorities have begun major roads rehabilitation project in Buchanan.
The project is estimated at US$263,997.
In early December 2021, the Superintendent of Grand Bassa County wrote a letter to the Management of Arcelor Mittal Liberia seeking rehabilitation of feeder roads in the city of Buchanan.
The management then responded positively and agreed to rehabilitate several roads badly damaged by heavy rains.
Through its Corporate Responsibility, the rehabilitation exercise has already covered the road connecting Tubman Street Junction to the Loop, the Government Hospital Road – Kilby Street , Pipeline Road leading to the Grand Bassa University ,Upper Buchanan Road and Own Your Own Road – Monrovia Junction .
Flee Glay , Development Superintendent of Grand Bassa commended the company for their prompt response to their request for assistance to rehabilitate the major Community Roads in Buchanan.
He admonished ArcelorMittal Liberia’s management noting“We are grateful for your contribution to the development of our County .
At the same time, Winston Daryoue , Arcelor Mittal’s Communications Manager told local media in the county that ArcelorMittal Liberia has continuously worked on several roads in Grand .
Daryoue disclosed that that the entity is prepared to continuously work for the Liberian people to enhance the government of Liberia development framework; the Pro-poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity(PAPD).
“Local residents happy”
Emmanuel Davis , a motorcycle rider said “I appreciate Arcelor Mittal so much for the hard work done”.
He furthered “We are so happy for this Upper Buchanan road, the road was in a deplorable condition but now that Arcelor Mittal Liberia is rehabilitating it, I am very happy.
“ I am also calling on all motorcyclists to please slow down because people will be walking along the road “.
A resident of the Four Houses community, Enoch Moses for his part, described the rehabilitation of the road as “a New Year’s gift to the people of Bassa”.
