Following months of negotiations, the Management of the Sethi Steeling Company in Garnderville has made significant increment in workers’ salary, and provide medical insurance, housing benefits, among others, for its workforce.
It followed the signing of a collective bargaining agreement with the workers in an attempt to promote efficiency and productivity within the Concession.
Speaking on behalf of the Management, the Special Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Sethi Brother Incorporated, Elaine Hall Nemah said the management remains committed to the full implementation of the agreement.
Madam Nemah urged the workers union Leadership to be robust in managing potential conflict by closely providing timely and real time information regarding issues that may be misconstrued by the entire workforce.
“As we grow this relationship together, we hope that we forge a better relationship by understanding each other each day.” She said.
“The CBA is not an iron jacket anytime we can come back on the table we say let settle this”, Madam Nemah asserted.
“The signing of the CBA is a major step forward for our relationship and please accept our congratulations, we will continue to work with you, we are not against workers Union and we are not against workers relation” she explained.
Labor Minister Charles Gibson lauded the Sethi’s management for being sensitive to the plights of the workers and encouraged social dialogue in seeking redress to grievances.
Minister Gibson urged the workers through their Bargaining Representative, National Union of Hospitality Aviation Communication and Energy Workers to stop using the media as a way of seeking redress and mandate straight adherence to the CBA.
“We don’t run our offices in the media when we focus on the Media we will not focus on the job you want us to do and will lose our objectives”, Minister Gibson said.
“It important that we always find a way in working between the workers and the management so that both can benefit if we see a negotiation stalled for some time we as the Ministry get involved to see the best”, he said.
“Now we have an agreement between the workers and the management we could not have used the media why the process of the CBA was going on however I want to thank the media for all the information the media work stop to where our work begins”, he said.
“I want to congratulate all of you here Mr. Wallace, Mr. Sethi and team behind you and the workers room was not built in the night or in the day so we will work with you all for the common good of the company, workers and Liberia, ”Minister Gibson expressed.
Also speaking President of the National Union of Hospitality Aviation Communication and Energy Workers Union, Baryou Wallace said the step taking by the Sethi demonstrates the Company’s resolve in forging a worker friendly.
He credited the management of Sethi and the Ministry of Liberia for allowing the workers to get salary increment, housing, insurance, education and medical allowances.
“This shows how sensitive the management of Sethi is to the plights of the workers, Mr. Wallace said.
