The Liberia Labor Congress (LLC) has complained the Labor Ministry to the Director General of the International Labor Organization in Geneva, Switzerland for interfering into workers affairs.
In its letter of complaint, the LLC said the Labor Ministry under Cllr. Charles Gibson has unilaterally submitted names of people who are not in the entity’s leadership to this year’s 110th sessions of the International Labor Conference in Geneva without the workers’ input.
The indicated that though the current leadership of the LLC was legitimately elected by overwhelming majority of the workforce, the Ministry of Labor has refused to grant them audience for allowing public sector workers to join the trade union.
The Labor Congress noted that any delegate to the conference in Geneva must be recommended by it through the legitimate leadership instead of the Ministry of Labor as done by Cllr. Gibson.
The letter signed by the LLC Secretary General Edwin Cisco told the ILO Director General that the election that brought them to power was witnessed by local and international trade union organizations and urged the ILO to reject the current names of delegates submitted to it.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Liberia Labor Congress (LLC) has left the Country for Durban, South Africa to attend the fifth global conference on Child Labor.
Edwin Cisco was invited by the International Labor Organization to the conference to represent workers delegate from Liberia.
Mr. Cisco in a release said he will make a strong case to LLC’s International partners and the ILO to ensure the validation of a draft child labor bill being developed by the Ministry of Labor to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive document for Liberia.
Mr. Cisco is meanwhile calling on workers of Liberia through their respective trade unions to work along with the LLC to engage the Ministry on its decision to select workers’ delegates to this year’s 110th session of the International Labor Conference in Geneva without consultation with the LLC leadership.
