To commemorate International Albinism Awareness Day, Monday, June 13, the Liberia Albino Society (LAS) has called for government of Liberia continous support and to pursue policies that would make improve the lives of albinos in the country.
Celebrating this year’s awareness day with the theme: “United In Making Our Voice Heard,” the Executive Director of the Liberia Albion Society (LAS), Patricia Logan bemoaned government continous support to the Liberia Albinos Society.
Speaking to reporters at the Invincible Sports park, on Saturday a day that was set aside as sports day as part of activities leading to the International Albinism awareness day, Madam Patricia Logan reechoed the need to enact a legislation which will eventually cater to the welfare and general needs of persons living with albinism across the Country.
“There are no clear cut policies and programmes seeking to ensure that persons with albinism have access to adequate health care, employment, education, justice and social protection in Liberia, so there’s the legislature enact a law, which will improve the welfare and general needs of persons living with albinism.
Madam Logan, entreated the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGSP) “to fully domesticate and full implementation of the regional action plan on albinism in Africa which was adopted by the AU for the enjoyment of the rights of persons with albinism.”
Meanwhile, the Albinism awareness activities, will begin at 12:00 noon with a parade from Point Four Junction to the main indoor venue the Ambassador Christian Fellowship International in Sayon Town.
The Day is among other things meant to raise the necessary awareness about the activities and challenges facing the albinism community and to as well advocate for the rights and welfare of persons living with Albinism both nationally and globally.
In additions, the Liberia Albino Society (LAS) is wishing all albinos in the country and across the globe to join and celebrate a happy International Abinism Awareness Day.
Despite the obstacles to the well-being and security of persons, LAS has commended the efforts of albinos who continue to work hard to support the most vulnerable to achieve their dreams and ambitions.
