Liberian authority confirms nine new cases of Covid-19

Covid-19 has resurfaced in Liberia, with nine (9) cases confirmed, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Francis Kateh, told local radio talk show on Tuesday.

Dr. Kateh said densely  populated Montserrado County has eight (8) of those newly confirmed coronavirus pandemic  infection, while neighbouring  Margibi County host the remaining  victim of the virus.

He told the ELBC’s Super Morning  show, that the nine active cases are symptomatic but do not require hospitalization, adding a routine vaccination services, will shortly be carryout in the entire country to completely  get rid of the infections.

Dr. Kateh further said the Ministry of Health, is closely monitoring those patients, under isolation if the symptoms arises, there could be need for quarantined.

There has been 7,497 infections and 294 coronavirus- related deaths in the country, since the virus outbreak in the country of March 16, 2020, when former Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Boss Dr. Nathaniel Blama, become the first Liberian to contract, the deadly virus, while on governmental functions in Switzerland.

But nearly two years of fight to eradicate the disease, it suddenly cool down with the arrival of the first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII), in Liberia on March 6, 2020. 

The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine later came to reduce the risk of the infection in the country.
