Liberia’s house of Representatives passes Dual Citizenship Bill

The House of Representatives minutes ago, passed into law, an Act Granting Dual Citizenship.

20 persons voted in favor, while one went against and no abstentions.

According to our correspondent, the House’s Plenary endorsed a joint conference Committee report but with some restrictions that dual citizens will not hold certain public offices including Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Defense, as well as elected posts, among others.

The dual citizen’s act has been at the Liberian legislature for several years since it was first introduced during the reign of former president Ellen Johnson
