Illegal mining is common in Liberia as many young people do it for earn meet

Mudslide at an Illegal Goldmine has trapped at least  two persons  and reported dead with another one  injured  in Kokoyah district Bong County.

The incident took place at an illegal goldmine in Kokoyah statutory District Boisen early Monday morning,

 at about 1:00pm local time killing and trapping one person and one injury,

Mr Clark Negbah, 39 years of age got killed while Friday Cole aged  43 years of sustained Injury.

According to the trapped survivors Jerry Johnson and Siafa Corneh,  while they were gathering materials into the brush about 12:58pm local time they heard Jerry Johnson shorting, “Friday Cole watchout the dirt is breaking” and it was too late for him to escape.

They told Liberia Public national correspondent in Bong County that they made several attempts to rescue their two colleagues but only  Friday Cole came out while Negbah remained trapped and later died.

However a 15-man jury headed by Mr.Sumo Kollie claimed that the neck and joints as well as and the left arm of the victim were all broken and ruled out any foul play.

Illegal mining activities are common in Liberia due to poverty and this has now  become a source income for thousands of unskilled and unemployed Liberians, mostly young people.

The Irresponsible mining practices by illegal miners do not only cause irreparable harm to the environment and the ecology, but put their health at  risk.

Our correspondent said authorities of the Liberia national police has taken seize of the Situation  while the Liberia Mines and Energy ministry has been informed about the latest incident.
