Seven persons have been arrested by the Liberia National Police in connection to the street violence of July 26, 2022 following an instruction by President George Weah.

On Monday, President Weah addressed the Nation one week after the violence, in which he order the Police to arrest all those linked to the brutal flogging of a University student.

Prior to the President’s instruction, the Police had said it could not effect any arrest because it did not receive formal complain from anyone after brutal video on social media shows how a University student was flogged, tortured and scripted naked.
Those arrested are: Kendrick S. Pelenah, 30, Joshua S. Karr, 28, Pukar Roberts, 36, Ben B. Togba h, 25, Foday N. Massaquoi, 23, Aaron K. Chea, 26 and Abdurahman Barrie.

The Police has also launched a manhunt for the remaining individuals and will shortly solicit the assistance of the public by releasing names and photographs of the wanted persons.

Meanwhile, the LNP informs the public that it is still conducting Professional Standards probe of its officers that were in charge of security for the July 26 celebration.

The police said the pub will be duly informed subsequently.

Weah distances group

The group counter protesters are said to be linked to the party of President George Manneh Weah, but in a statement on Monday said there is no auxiliary of his ruling Coalition for Democratic Change named CDC-Council of Patriot.
Many Liberians have since condemned the brutal action against the Student Unification Party.

In an interview with local media, Liberian presidential candidate Cllr. Tiawon Gongloe described the action by the “CDC-COP” as “domestic terrorists” and called for immediate investigation into the incident.
