The African Development Bank (AfDB), a multinational development financial institution based in Abidjan, is expected to organize on Tuesday, August 23, a political dialogue on sustainable debt management in Africa.
According to a source close to Liberia Public Radio the meeting will be held by videoconference with the participation of senior officials, lenders, economists and debt experts from international financial institutions and banks.
The lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, compounded by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine which is viewed to have led to the disruptions in economic activity and global trade will be central point of the meeting discussion.
Africa has not been spared the continent faces a difficult balancing act: protecting vulnerable populations and economic sectors from the impact of war, on the one hand, and containing debt vulnerabilities, on the other,” our source further indicated.
The financial institution maintained that this dialogue will make it possible to dissect the current and future debt architecture, including how to better capitalize on international initiatives such as the common framework for the treatment of debt, beyond of the G20 debt service suspension initiative.
