A conglomeration of civil society organizations under the banner Consortium of Civil society organizations says it attention has been drawn to recent “fake alarm “raised by the Conservation International (CI) Country Director over his safety in Liberia.
Dr. Peter G. Mulbah, CI country Director for Liberia recently wrote CI headquarters that he was no longer safe in Liberia due to constant threats on his person and needed to be evacuated from the country immediately.
However, the head of U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) then requested the World Bank and Environmental Protection Agency on the account of Dr. Mulbah that Liberia is not safe and needs to leave country. But Prof. Wilson Tarpeh, head of EPA described the allegation as unfounded and Liberia is safe and sound.
In press statement read by the CSO consortium National Executive Director John D. Pangbe, the group called on the Liberia national Police to speedily investigate the threat alarm raised by Dr. Mulbah.According to them the issue raised by the CI boss needs not to be downplay by security authorities in the country and must be looked into.
The consortium said the allegation by Dr. Mulbah is severe and he must be called on the police invite him[peter Mulbah] because such alarm has the propensity to scare investors from the country.
The press statement added that Dr. Mulbah must give evidence to police that his life is in danger in the country and if nothing of such he must be dealt with according to the law.
“We are calling on the Liberia National Police to call on Mr. Peter Mulbah to show prove or failure on his part to show any evidence he should be prosecuted.
We also and called on Conservation International to recall Mr. Mulbah and replace him with a decent Liberian”, the statement added.
It could be recalled that on August 3, 2020, the then Acting Country Director of Conservation International Peter Mulbah dismissed four employees on claims of acts of theft, embezzlement, diversion of funds, bribery and fraud and the issue has since been taken to court.
The complainants are requesting the court to hold Conservation International liable for damages in the amount of US$2.5Million
Meanwhile when contacted the country Director of CI Peter Mulbah via email there was no response as of the time of publication after several hours.
