Senator Joseph made the statement in an interview with reporters in Clay Ashland in rural Montserrado County during a road rehabilitation work carried out by his office.

A resident of the area said the road is a major one of the challenges they face in the area.

Sen. Joseph: “We will double the number of voters. If you want to have a discussion about elections in Montserado County, introduce Cummings, and bring Boakai then we can have a conversation, not a talk show host.  You want to compare a talk show host to Senator Saah Joseph the Ebola hero?

“The people of Montserrado County are resolved and our number this election will double what we acquired first. I am not talking about elections, I am worried about deliverables. There is no candidate in the elections.”

According Madam Janet Barrie, Town Chief of Gbakons Town, the last time their road was rehabilitated was during the presidency of former Liberian President Charles Taylor, who hails from that part of the county. According to her ,Gbakons Town is next door to Arthington city and is the same place former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf father hailed from

Town Chief Barrie said: “It is difficult getting to Monrovia, we sometimes have to make an appointment to bike riders days before our trip if you want to be transported. It is not easy. We have a school that only stops at junior high. Students in high school will have to move to Brewerville to attend high school.”

The residents thanked the Senator for the initiative to rehabilitate their roads.

Senator Joseph got elected in 2018, replacing Senator George Weah, a year after the Election of President   Weah as President of the Republic of Liberia. He got elected out of sympathy from many Liberians who preferred him over other contestants because of his role played during the fight against the outbreak of the deadly EBOLA virus for which he was named “Ebola Hero”.

Senator Joseph is the current Montserrado County Senator who will be contesting re-elections in Montserrado County on the ticket of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC). He shares the Montserrado Senate seat with Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of the opposition Liberty party.

Since winning elections in 2017, the CDC has lost its once stronghold in Montserrado County to the opposition evidenced by the back-to-back defeat they suffered at the hands of Senator Dillon and other by-elections results that went against them.

Joseph in 2020 was the campaign chair for candidate Thomas Fallah whom the ruling Party brought to defeat Dillon, but lost against the opposition with a very huge vote margin. He hopes to change that in 2023, since this time he will be campaigning for himself.

He believes his deliverables and past works in the county will land him re-election in Montserrado County smoothly noting that, “I don’t see any opposition.” He challenged the opposition bloc to collaborate and forward a candidate if they are to be a force against him.

Is Wilmot Paye another factor?

Mr. Wilmot Paye, former chairman of the former ruling Unity Party (UP) and the People Liberation Party (PLP) has also expressed interest in becoming Montserrado County’s next Senator. His plan is to unseat the incumbent Saah Joseph of the ruling party.

According to Mr. Paye, his motivation to contest comes from his visitations to many communities making up Montserrado County.

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, a group under the banner, ‘The Patriotic Citizens Network of Montserrado County’ formally petitioned Paye to contest for the Senate during the 2023 Presidential and General Elections.
