Liberian president George Manneh Weah has sacked the country’s Minister of Post and Telecommunication, Cllr. Cooper Kruah after the Minister attended the gathering by former Vice President Joseph Boakai.

The gathering of opposition political parties which Cllr. Kruah is a chairman of one of the parties, Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) was intended for Mr. Boakai standard Bearer of Unity Party to select his running-mate for the upcoming October 2023 poll in Liberia.

Minutes after attending the event, one the confidants of President Weah, Rep Moses Acarus Gray of Montserrado District#8 took to the social media calling Cllr. Kruah a betrayal and want the president dismiss him immediately. The Liberia constitution allows for freedom of association of individuals to political parties regardless of their status or with position they occupy.

However, many critics of the president said although the president has a right to appoint and dismiss but the action which was prompted by Rep. Gray was not in the   right direction.

A partisan of Weah’s ruling Coalition for Democratic Change who name is withheld for personal reason told Liberia Public Radio that the action by Weah will hamper his vote in Nimba county where the former Minister hails from.

Many Liberians who spoke to Liberia Public say the George Weah-led administration has not done to better the living condition of the people and will not re-elect him in the upcoming election.

Amb. Joseph Baokai, former vice president to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf 2006-2018 has vowed that he is the best man for the country, although some of his critics say he too old to lead Liberia.

Weah  has immediately nominated former Nimba county representative Cllr. Worlea-Saywah Dunah as Minister of Post and Telecommunications.

Pres. Weah named Cllr. Dunnah as immediate replacement for the MDR Chairman late Monday evening, May 1, 2023.

The nomination is subject to confirmation by the Honorable Liberian Senate.
