Woman, 36, sent to court in Central Liberia for burying newborn baby alive

Police in  the Gbarnga, Bong County has  charged and sent to court 36-year-old woman for allegedly burying alive her two-day-old baby.

Addressing local journalists Liberia National Police  Inspector in Gbarnga Bong County central Liberia Fasu V. Sheriff, General Commander Said the body of the two-day-old baby boy was discovered in a nearby swamp by dwellers of the Sugar Hill Community on recently  and was later confirmed dead by Medical personnel at the C. B. Dunbar Hospital.

Commander Sheriff explained that during the police preliminary investigation, Suspect Lorpu Kesselee,  believed to be the mother of the child voluntarily admitted to the commission of the act.

Suspect Kesselee told police  investigators that her decision was based on the denial of the pregnancy by her boyfriend whom she refused to name. 

After a forensic medical examination, it was revealed that Lorpu had a full-time pregnancy and the baby was alive after being delivered. 

During the interrogation, a detective asked the 36-year-old mother why she buried her newborn baby alive, and she replied; ” I didn’t want this boy because the belly was denied by my boyfriend “. 

Lorpu Kesselee has since been charged with murder and forwarded to the Night Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga for trial.

Abandonment of newborn children are common in many parts of Liberia due to what they called lack of support and hardship on the perpetrators.

Earlier last week a baby believed to be few days old was discovered in Paynesville city outside of Monrovia beheaded and thrown in a gutter.
