Liberia is facing a serious infrastructure deficit especially in rural communities affecting the overall growth and economic wellbeing of the people.
About 47% of Liberia’s 5.2million people live in the rural areas and that they are lacking behind in terms of the needed infrastructures such as recreational centers, schools, clinics and town hall to hold discussions
The lack of electricity coupled with bad road network is also undermining development progress in these leeward counties.
In order to bridge those infrastructure gaps, Non-governmental Organizations have joined efforts by the Liberian government to initiate rural community development program to improve the standard of living of ordinary Liberians.
Molly-Kuyata, a town located about 25 kilometers away from Sanoyea District in Bong County is one of the communities that has serious infrastructure deficit. The area lacks schools to accommodate kids of school going age and the worse of all there is no clinic resulting to citizens trekking several hours to Sanoyea town the headquarters of the District to seek treatment.
On September 11, the Vainga Agriculture Development Management Consultancy (VADEMCO), With funding from an American philanthropic Uros Miakar constructed and turned over a modern town hall to the people of Molly-Kuyata during a colorful program.
Dream come through
Cutting ribbon to the hall, Sanoyea clan chief Wiasay Nannah, said the hall is a dream come through for residents of the town who have long been yarning for a decent center for discussion.
She added that the initiative was the first of its kind in the town that has been existing for over 75 years.
“we are very happy for VADEMCO and their partner for this project this today is the first time for us to see this kind of thing”, she added through an interpreter.
Chief Nanah also use the occasion to call on other humanitarians to help the town with other development that will help improve the living condition of the residents.
Other local leaders of the town and stakeholders in Bong County could not also hold back their joy by expressing a gratitude to VADEMCO and its partners the live changing project.
Sumakai O. Kamara, town chief of Molly-Kuyata said the dedication has brought a great relief to community members who have never had and decent place for meeting.
“We appreciate this hall and I want my people to maintain it well so it can last longer”, he adds.
The program was characterized by traditional dances and songs while presenting kola-nuts in appreciation to the effort by VADEMCO and partners.
Community members including clan chief of Sanoya district however appealed to government and partners to emulate the good example of VADEMCO and its partner Mr. Uros Miakar, founder of Natural Food, D.O.O to bring more projects in their communities.
