A leaked chatroom conversation involving key members of the All Liberian Party (ALP) and its senior official Henry Costa, suggests that he accepted money to endorse President George Weah and launch vicious attacks against rival candidate Joseph Boakai and his running mate, Jeremiah Kpan Koung.
The leaked chatroom conversation, accessed by Liberia Public Radio provides a detailed account of Costa’s dealings with President Weah and has raised questions about his motivations and loyalty to the Liberian people.
The conversation in question, which took place on a messaging platform, Whatsapp reportedly occurred shortly before Costa endorsement on Wednesday.
Henry Costa, a vocal critic of Weah and leader of the Council of Patriots, had previously been a prominent figure in the opposition. However, the leaked chat suggests a startling shift in his political stance and confirms previous allegation that he took money from Weah.
Costa’s Deal with Weah:
According to the leaked chat, Henry Costa is recorded as saying that he received a substantial sum of money from President Weah in exchange for endorsing his candidacy. The chat implies that Costa’s decision to support Weah was driven by financial gain.
Discouraging Self-Sacrifice:
In a particularly shocking revelation, the chat implies that President Weah allegedly advised Costa not to “kill himself for the Liberian people.”
However, this statement has raised concerns about Weah’s perspective on governance and the welfare of the nation.
Attacks on Boakai and Koung: T
The leaked chat also shows Henry Costa discussing strategies to attack Joseph Boakai and his running mate, Jeremiah Koung , in a bid to weaken their campaign.
Costa appears to be coordinating smear campaigns and false narratives against the opposition candidates.
While the authenticity of the leaked chat is yet to be confirmed, its content has caused a major political storm in Liberia. Several key questions are being raised in the wake of this revelation:
Was Henry Costa’s dramatic shift in political allegiance solely motivated by financial gain?
What is the true nature of Costa’s relationship with President Weah, and to what extent did Weah influence his endorsement?
The ALP and Henry Costa have not officially responded to the allegations, leaving the public and political observers eager to hear their side of the story.
Our reporter sent several messages to Mr. Henry Costa via social media to comment on the allegation but to no avail.
Costa Relationship with Weah
It can be recalled that relationship between Weah and Costa got sour in 2018 after he [Costa] reportedly demand huge sum of money from Amb. Weah to run his propaganda and the president refused.
Mr. Costa previously supported Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Boakai in 2017 runoff and remained friends until March 2023 when they parted company for Boakai “refusal” to name Henry Costa as running-mate thus prompting Costa to describe the 78-year-0ld former Vice president as “ungrateful Sanamaswine”.
It remains unclear whether Costa’s renewed relationship with the president will last longer
