Montserrado District#10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah has issued a stern ultimatum to President-Elect Joseph Nyumah Boakai, demanding full disclosure of source of funds recent 10 million Liberian dollars donation by Boakai towards the gas tanker explosion victims.
Recently, President elect Boakai donated , LRD$10,000,000.00 plus 200 bags of rice to aid those affected by the tragic incident in Totota Bong County but the donation has become a focal point of contention amid allegations by controversial District#10 Montserrado lawmaker that a Liberian businessman who is aiming for monopoly over rice importation in the country.
In a press conference held on Sunday January 7, 2024 , Rep Kolubah expressed concern over the lack of clarity surrounding the donation, emphasizing the need for full disclosure while citing the Liberia code of Conduct act of 2014.
According to him the donation by President-elect Boakai in his own name violates the sections of Code of Conduct which calls for government officials to disclose any gift more than US$200.00 to the public.
He said before becoming president, Boakai has admitted living on bank loans and it was suprissing see him donating such huge amount of money and was surprise to hear the huge cash donation from the former Vice president.
“This is a man who Costa and Stanton was feeding and he himself admitted to living on loan where he got LRD$10,000, 000 equivalent to over $55,000.00.
He needs to tell the Liberian people who gave him the money in 7 days or I will tell my people who gave him the money”, he added.
Rep Kolubah however, urged President-Elect Boakai to disclose the source of the 10 million Liberian dollars within the next seven days would lead to him to naming and shaming the source of Boakai’s donated funds.
He expressed what he termed as “proud” comments being made by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Spoon Communications Network in Liberia Stanton Witherspoon towards the gesture from President-elect Boakai to the bereaved families.
According to him, President-elect Boakai remains answerable to Liberians as to where or who provided him the money and rice provided to the families of the victims.
Representative Kolubah wondered why President-elect Boakai who is on record for admitting to “living on loan” would generate and subsequently donate such a huge amount and rice without informing Liberians how and where he got it.
President-Elect Boakai’s office has yet to respond to the ultimatum but a source closed to the former VP says the comment by Rep Kolubah has no substance.
