Peci says the EPS has made no formal request for retrieving the firearm from him

Pepci Yeke, the former Director for the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) has debunked reports of shooting at his residence.

Yeke who has been out of the country since the end of ex-President Weah’s tenure said he has no personal security, but indicated that a private security firm – SEGAL – provides security for his home.

“I’m out of the country and I have not received any report of any shooting at my residence. I only got this information from FrontPageAfrica. Who shot, who was shot – that information was not provided. Maybe SEGAL can perhaps provide some information,” he said.

The report of the alleged shooting preceded a press release issued by the Executive Protection Service alleging that Yeke is illegally possessing a gun – a weapon assigned to him due to his proximity with ex-President Weah.

The weapon in question possesses the following specifications: Serial #: 97344, marking 73, classified as a Norinco 22 pistol. Mr. Sam Gaye, the Director of EPS, issued a statement urging any law enforcement officer encountering Yeke to promptly detain him and contact the Executive Protection Service.

“Law enforcement encountering Pepsi Yeke should detain him immediately and inform the Executive Protection Service (EPS). Mr. Yeke is deemed armed and dangerous.”

However, Yeke asserting that he had not been instructed to surrender the weapon, which was officially assigned to him by the EPS. In a WhatsApp message, he accused Gaye of incompetence and demanded a retraction of the statement within 24 hours.

“If you’re unable to grasp the task at hand, seek advice from your former colleagues rather than displaying your ignorance. I have yet to receive a formal request to surrender the EPS weapon legally assigned to me, yet you hastily label me as armed and dangerous.”

He continued, criticizing Gaye’s inability to adhere to procedures, accusing him of behaving erratically and demonstrating incompetence in handling even basic tasks. Yeke challenged Gaye to submit an official request and follow proper procedures for EPS weapon turnover to ensure meticulous documentation.

“Your failure to fulfill your duties not only reflects poorly on yourself but also tarnishes the integrity of the Boakai government. On what grounds do you baselessly brand me as armed and dangerous? It appears you’ve embarked on your new role with a personal vendetta against Pepsi Yeke. I perceive this as a threat to my life and demand that you retract your statement within 24 hours and adhere to proper procedures.”
