Former Nimba District#9 Representative Johnson N. Gwaikolo Mourned Following Sudden Passing

The news of Dr. Johnson N. Gwaikolo, former Representative of District#9 Nimba County  passing has sent shocks through the county and Liberia  leaving friends, family, and constituents grappling with the sudden loss of a beloved leader.

Gwaikolo, renowned for his unwavering dedication to serving the people of Nimba District#9, passed away unexpectedly Monday February 19, 2024 morning,  according to sources close to his family.

While details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain sparse, tributes have poured in from across the district, highlighting Gwaikolo’s profound impact on the community.

Having served as the district’s representative for 6 years, Gwaikolo earned a reputation as a champion for development initiatives and grassroots empowerment. His advocacy efforts spanned various sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment, leaving an indelible mark on the socio-economic landscape of Nimba District#9.

He was elected in 2017 on the ticket of victory for Change as representative in District#9 Nimba County and served as the House of Representative Chair on Rules, order and  Administration.

However, he lost his re-election bid to now Representative Taa Wongbe in 2023.

Upon hearing the news of Gwaikolo’s passing, residents of the district gathered in mourning, reminiscing about his tireless advocacy and genuine commitment to improving their quality of life.

Former President Weah  and others pay tribute

In a Facebook post, former president George Manneh Weah described the late lawmaker as not just a friend but a blood relative played pivotal role his former ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

Former president Weah said Dr. Johnson Gwaikolo will be missed for his leadership star at the legislature during his  tenure there

The CEO of Nimba one Media House Incorporated, Amb Edmund Gbarwee, described the late lawmaker as ‘father of degrees’ who educated many young people to obtain professional degrees.

Amb Gbarwee said the death of Dr. Gwaikolo has left a big void the will never be easily filled by anyone.

Tributes has been pouring from across Liberia from people who knew the former lawmaker for his contribution to mankind.

The passing of Johnson N. Gwaikolo leaves a void in Nimba District#9 that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
