The mood is intended for security reason,Foreign Ministry said.

In a significant move aimed at bolstering security measures, the Liberian government has announced the suspension of issuance for Diplomatic, Official, and Service passports.

This decision comes amidst growing concerns over misuse and fraudulent activities associated with these types of passports, which could potentially undermine national security.

Liberia’s Foreign Minister Sara Beyslow Nyanti told a news conference Monday that decision to suspend these passport categories is consistent with government’s  commitment to enhancing security protocols and curbing potential risks associated with unauthorized use.

According to her the  move is expected to pave the way for stricter scrutiny and regulation of passport issuance processes, thereby mitigating security threats and safeguarding national interests.

This means, the government of Liberia is  now reverting to the March 2016 regulation on passport issuance.

In a notable development, the United States government has welcomed Liberia’s decision, acknowledging it as a proactive step towards strengthening security cooperation between the two nations.

U.S. officials have lauded Liberia’s commitment to addressing security challenges effectively and have expressed readiness to support the country’s efforts in this regard.

The suspension of Diplomatic, Official, and Service passports reflects Liberia’s proactive stance in confronting security vulnerabilities and aligns with international best practices in passport control and issuance.

This decisive action is poised to bolster public confidence in Liberia’s security apparatus and reinforce its standing as a responsible member of the global community.

It has been reported that the previous administration of the Liberian government has given passports in different categories to unauthorized individuals some of whom are involved in criminal activities.
