The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has directed the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to resubmit a new Tariff Application proposal by January 31, 2025.
This decision follows a request from LEC’s Interim Management Team (IMT) to withdraw the Corporation’s previous tariff application, which was submitted in October 2024.
On December 11, 2024, LEC informed the Commission that the tariff submission coincided with a transition within the Corporation. The previous management was replaced by the IMT, which stated it was unfamiliar with the previously submitted Tariff Application and requested additional time to review and revise it properly.
As a result, LERC has extended the current tariff period—initially set to end on December 31, 2024—by three months, moving the deadline to March 31, 2025. During this extension, LEC will not announce any new tariffs for its operational areas in Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Cape, and Bomi counties.
Claude J. Katta, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners (BoC) of LERC, emphasized the importance of meeting the new deadline. He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring transparency throughout the tariff-setting process. The Commission plans to hold various stakeholder engagements and outreach initiatives before finalizing the tariff decision.
“The tariff application process is vital for the effective regulation of the electricity sector in Liberia. The Commission will continue to engage the public to ensure a fair and transparent process that aligns with the interests of all stakeholders,” stated Chairman Katta.
