The ongoing leadership conflict within the House of Representatives has led the Supreme Court of Liberia to formally notify both opposing parties that it will deliver a decision on Wednesday, April 23. This decision pertains to the Bill of Information submitted by Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and other House members.

The notice, dated April 16 and delivered to each party through their respective attorneys, instructs them to appear before the Honorable Supreme Court on the indicated day at 12:00 p.m. The 55th Legislature has been embroiled in internal strife and conflicting claims to the Speakership.

The anticipated ruling is expected to clarify the legitimacy of the House leadership.

At the center of the legal dispute are Representative Richard Nagbe Koon and Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, who have declared themselves the rightful leaders of the House, acting in violation of Speaker Koffa’s authority. The Court’s decision is expected to provide a definitive interpretation of its 2024 ruling on the same case, which both sides have argued supports their positions.

The Supreme Court will again address significant procedural and constitutional issues arising from this ongoing dispute. Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh, along with Associate Justices Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay Sr., Yussif D. Kaba, Jamesetta H. Wolokolie, and Cllr. Cianeh D. Clinton-Johnson, is hearing the case.

Cllr. Sam Mamuly signed the notice of assignment on behalf of the Court, which was then handed over to Brigadier General Amos B. Kesseh Dickson, Sr., the Marshal, for distribution to all relevant parties.

The nation eagerly awaits a decision that could significantly influence parliamentary leadership and governance for the remaining members of the 55th Legislature, as tensions at the Capitol continue to escalate.
