A local oil palm farmer in Bong County is urging the government to provide essential support to boost the production capacity of the palm oil industry in the region.

Jeremiah Kollie believes that with the right resources and backing, the oil palm sector could become a significant driver of economic growth and prosperity for Liberia.

Kollie emphasized the vast potential of the oil palm industry, highlighting the economic opportunities it could create for smallholder farmers and the broader community.

He underscored the necessity for increased government intervention, including comprehensive training and access to modern agricultural techniques, to enhance productivity and the quality of palm oil products. These improvements, he believes, are crucial for ensuring Liberia’s oil palm sector remains competitive in both regional and global markets.

In his appeal, Kollie pointed out the current lack of sufficient government support for the sector, which has hindered its growth and limited its potential contribution to national economic development. He called on the Ministry of Agriculture to provide essential resources such as funding, technical training, and access to modern equipment to help farmers scale their operations and increase yields.

As a farmer with several years of experience in palm cultivation, Kollie envisions a future where the oil palm industry becomes a cornerstone of Liberia’s agricultural sector. With the right support, he believes Liberia can position itself as a regional leader in oil palm production, capitalizing on both domestic and international demand for palm oil.

Kollie argues that the support of the Ministry of Agriculture would not only improve the livelihoods of local farmers but also foster sustainable agricultural practices in Bong County and beyond. By investing in the oil palm sector, the government has the chance to empower rural communities, promote economic stability, and create jobs, ultimately strengthening Liberia’s agricultural industry.

The oil palm sector has long been acknowledged for its potential to drive economic growth in Liberia, a country rich in fertile land and natural resources. Oil palm is one of the most lucrative crops, providing raw materials for various industries, including food production, cosmetics, and biofuel.

However, despite the sector’s immense potential, it has faced challenges due to insufficient investment, outdated farming practices, and a lack of government support.
