Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second and final term in office.

The announcement was made on Thursday during a party summit in Abuja, coinciding with the second anniversary of Tinubu’s presidency.

At 73 years old, Tinubu won the last election in February 2023. His two main challengers claimed that the election was rigged, but their legal challenges were dismissed. Tinubu has consistently maintained that he won fairly.

The APC has expressed its desire for Tinubu to continue the economic reforms his administration initiated.

These measures include ending a decades-old fuel subsidy and liberalizing the exchange rate. While these policies have garnered praise from credit rating agencies and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), they have also resulted in soaring inflation and a serious cost-of-living crisis.

Despite facing criticism over economic difficulties and insecurity, Tinubu remains influential, as demonstrated by his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in 2024, aimed at enhancing international partnerships.

Meanwhile, the opposition remains divided and has been weakened by high-profile defections.
