In a major political development ahead of Côte d’Ivoire’s presidential election scheduled for October 25, 2025, the Movement for Peaceful Actions for Sovereignty and of Côte d’Ivoire (MAPSCI) has formally endorsed former Minister Ahoua Don Mello as its presidential candidate.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Abidjan on Sunday, August 3, where MAPSCI President Amani Kopro described the endorsement as a reflection of the movement’s alignment with Don Mello’s vision for the country.
“Minister Ahoua Don Mello has embodied the fundamental values that MAPSCI defends—national sovereignty, equal opportunity, and social justice,” Kopro said. He characterized Don Mello as one of the “most capable and committed leaders” to address the nation’s multifaceted challenges.
Kopro emphasized that sovereignty remains central to MAPSCI’s platform, extending beyond traditional security concerns to encompass economic independence and legal equity. In a notable reference, he cited Vladimir Lenin’s The Right of Nations to Self-Determination, calling for political autonomy free from external influences.
The endorsement comes amid rising political tensions in Côte d’Ivoire, following reports that several opposition figures may be barred from participating in the election. In light of this, MAPSCI’s leadership also called for national reconciliation, acknowledging historical divisions and urging a more inclusive democratic process.
Don Mello’s campaign, according to MAPSCI, outlines a series of proposals aimed at improving livelihoods, promoting sustainable job creation, and strengthening regional diplomacy.
MAPSCI’s backing potentially bolsters Don Mello’s standing in what is expected to be a tightly contested race. The movement has appealed to voters, civil society organizations, and youth to support what it described as a “new chapter for justice and equality in the Republic.”
