A significant political development has taken shape in Côte d’Ivoire as the country gears up for its presidential election scheduled for October 25, 2025.
Eighteen political parties and movements have come together to form a new coalition called The Democratic Congress (CODE), endorsing businessman and former government minister Jean-Louis Billon as their sole candidate.
The coalition was formally introduced at a press conference held in Abidjan on Tuesday, where CODE spokesperson Seri Landry outlined the alliance’s goals and the reasons for supporting Mr. Billon.
“The Democratic Congress represents a powerful union for the future of our nation,” Landry stated. “In light of the political, social, and economic challenges ahead, we believe that unity—not division—is the only viable path to a brighter future for all Ivorians.”
CODE’s endorsement of Mr. Billon is based on what the coalition describes as his extensive experience, integrity, and vision for national renewal. Their platform emphasizes key priorities, including national reconciliation, democratic reform, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic development.
Among the founding members of the coalition are prominent parties such as FAR, URCI, and La Nouvelle Nation. All 18 member organizations have committed to functioning as a unified bloc throughout the electoral process, adhering to the following principles:
In his closing remarks, Landry urged Ivorians to rally behind the coalition’s vision, describing Mr. Billon as a symbol of transformative leadership.
Jean-Louis Billon is widely recognized as a leading figure in the Ivorian private sector and one of the country’s largest employers.
His entry into the presidential race, supported by a broad coalition, indicates a potentially significant shift in the political landscape as Côte d’Ivoire approaches its 2025 elections.
