The Constitutional Council of Côte d’Ivoire has published the provisional list of candidates for the country’s upcoming presidential election, scheduled for October 25, 2025.
The announcement was made Friday via an official communiqué signed by Council President Chantal Nanaba Camara.
According to the statement, the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) submitted 60 declarations of candidacy earlier that day at 1:47 p.m. local time. The list includes several prominent political figures, including incumbent President Alassane Ouattara, former President Laurent Gbagbo, and opposition leader Tidjane Thiam. Both Gbagbo and Thiam have previously faced challenges to their eligibility due to legal and nationality-related concerns.
In line with Article 56 of the electoral code, the provisional list was made public at 6:00 p.m. on August 29. A 72-hour window has now been opened for candidates and their sponsoring political groups to submit claims or observations regarding the candidacies. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 1, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. local time. All submissions must be delivered in ten original copies to the Council’s General Secretariat.
This review period marks a critical phase in the electoral process. The Constitutional Council will assess all claims and observations before releasing the final list of approved candidates.
That decision will determine who is officially cleared to contest the presidency in what is expected to be a closely watched and highly competitive election.
