French-Guinean rapper Alpha Diallo, known professionally as Black M, has been summoned by Ivorian transport authorities following the release of a video showing him allegedly using a mobile phone while driving.

The General Directorate of Land Transportation and Traffic (DGTTC) issued a public statement on September 4, citing the artist’s conduct as a violation of Decree No. 2013-711, which prohibits the use of handheld communication devices while operating a vehicle. The video, reportedly posted on Black M’s social media account during his visit to Côte d’Ivoire, has sparked concern over road safety and the influence of public figures on driving behavior.

Officials warned that such actions, particularly by high-profile personalities, risk encouraging unsafe practices among fans and the general public.

In response, the Secretariat of the Special Commission for Suspension and Revocation of Driver’s Licenses has invited the rapper to a formal meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, at 3:00 p.m. local time, at the DGTTC headquarters in Abidjan.

Authorities emphasized the importance of Black M’s physical presence, citing the seriousness of the matter.

The statement concluded with the campaign hashtag “#StopIncivilityOnTheRoad,” underscoring the government’s broader initiative to curb traffic violations and promote responsible driving.

Our correspondent says Black M has not yet publicly responded to the summons.
