BudgIT Liberia, a youth-led civil society organization and a proud member of the Government of Liberia’s Fiscal Transparency Advisory Group, is calling for urgent action following revelations of financial misconduct at Lofa County University (LCU).
The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) recently uncovered serious discrepancies amounting to over $360,000 USD, raising concerns across the education and governance sectors.
As an organization committed to promoting transparency and accountability in public finance—particularly within the education sector—BudgIT Liberia views this case not only as a matter of corruption but also as a direct threat to national development and the future of Liberian youth.
In its roles as both an advocate and an advisory partner to the government, BudgIT Liberia urges President Joseph Nyumah Boakai to address this issue with the utmost urgency. The organization calls for a thorough, impartial investigation and demands that all individuals found responsible be held accountable, regardless of their rank or affiliation.
Call for Structural Reform
In addition to accountability, BudgIT Liberia advocates for comprehensive reforms at Lofa County University and across Liberia’s education sector. These reforms should include strengthening internal audit systems, enhancing transparency in procurement processes, and ensuring public access to budget allocation and execution data.
A Call to Collective Action
BudgIT Liberia also urges students, civil society organizations, development partners, and local communities to remain engaged and vigilant. Only through collective action and a steadfast commitment to integrity can Liberia build resilient institutions and protect public resources for future generations.
BudgIT Liberia is a youth-led, not-for-profit civic organization dedicated to fostering transparency, accountability, and inclusive development. Through data-driven advocacy, civic engagement, and policy reform, BudgIT Liberia works to ensure that public resources are used efficiently and equitably for the benefit of all Liberians.
