Zwedru, Liberia — The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has launched a sweeping crackdown on illegal drug operations in Grand Gedeh County, intensifying the country’s broader campaign against narcotics trafficking and abuse.
The operation, which began on Tuesday, October 15, targeted several locations identified as hubs for drug-related activity. Officers from the LDEA’s Grand Gedeh Detachment conducted coordinated raids, resulting in the seizure of multiple substances suspected to be narcotics and the disruption of several illicit supply chains believed to be part of a larger criminal network.
Commander Papa Gompu, who leads the Grand Gedeh Detachment, described the initiative as part of the agency’s renewed “zero-tolerance” strategy. “This is not a one-time exercise,” Gompu told reporters. “Our goal is to make this a continuous process—a routine effort to keep Grand Gedeh County free from the harmful effects of drug trafficking and abuse.”

The enforcement campaign aims to dismantle drug distribution networks, apprehend suspects, and curb rising drug use among youth in the region. Authorities say the operation is being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies, local leaders, and community members.
The LDEA has called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. Officials say the agency will continue to monitor the situation as part of its national strategy to combat narcotics across Liberia.
