Efforts by the National Chiefs and Elders Council of Liberia, in collaboration with their counterparts in neighboring Guinea, have failed to resolve a troubling ritual-related condition affecting Christian Youhn, a resident of Mao Town in Nimba County Electoral District #2.
Christian reportedly suffered from an unexplained and prolonged penile erection lasting nearly two months, believed to be the result of a ritual act.
In search of traditional healing, his family escorted him to Guinea, hoping to consult a herbalist said to be capable of reversing the condition. However, after weeks of waiting, they were unable to meet the healer or receive any treatment.
Upon returning to Liberia on Monday, October 20, 2025, Christian—accompanied by family members and youth representatives from Mao Town—visited the Nimba County Chiefs and Elders Council office in Sanniquellie City.
There, he voiced his frustration over the ordeal and the lack of support he received while in Guinea.
Christian named Bill Duo and Prince Duo as key suspects in the case, alleging that they misled him by claiming the ritual healer was based in Guinea and would provide treatment. Both individuals are currently at large.
In response to the allegations, the National Council of Chiefs dispatched a special envoy to Guinea on October 11, 2025, to investigate and facilitate treatment. Unfortunately, the mission was unsuccessful, as the herbalist in question was unavailable.
This case has drawn attention to the complex and often painful consequences of ritual practices in the region, raising broader concerns about traditional justice systems and cross-border collaboration in resolving culturally sensitive health issues.
