A fire broke out Sunday morning at facilities linked to Lonestar Cell MTN, Liberia’s oldest and most prominent telecommunications provider, raising concerns over possible disruptions to nationwide communication services.
Emergency teams from the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) were dispatched around 9:00 a.m. local time to contain the blaze.
Authorities said the origin of the fire remains unknown. The LNFS is expected to launch a full investigation to determine whether the incident was triggered by an electrical fault, accidental ignition, or other causes.
Services Remain Operational
In a statement issued Sunday afternoon, Lonestar Cell MTN confirmed that no damage was sustained to its network infrastructure and that all services remain fully operational. The company thanked the swift intervention of the LNFS, which prevented the fire from spreading to its main office complex.
While the exact cause is yet to be determined, recent fire incidents in Liberia have frequently been attributed to electrical problems.
The incident comes at a sensitive time for Lonestar Cell MTN, which has faced heightened public and regulatory scrutiny in recent months over compliance with financial regulations and penalties related to noise pollution.
As a cornerstone of Liberia’s economic and social life, the company provides essential mobile, data, and financial services. Any disruption to its operations could have significant implications for commerce and daily communication across the country.
