Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire — Police in Grand-Bassam thwarted an armed robbery in the early hours of Sunday, arresting one suspect in the Mokeyville neighborhood and launching an investigation to track down accomplices.
Authorities said the operation began around 5:00 a.m. local time after officers received an anonymous tip-off about a planned attack on a private residence. Units were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they intercepted the suspects.
“The officers’ rapid deployment allowed one of the offenders to be apprehended in the very act of the crime,” a source close to the investigation told reporters.
The arrested individual was found carrying an automatic pistol and a bag containing tools allegedly intended for the robbery. Police described the seizure as a significant setback for organized crime networks operating in the area.

While the immediate threat was neutralized, officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing. “Efforts are underway to identify and arrest other accomplices,” the police report noted, underscoring the broader objective of dismantling the network behind the attempted home invasion.
The incident highlights both the persistent security challenges facing communities in Côte d’Ivoire and the importance of public vigilance. Authorities credited the anonymous tip-off as crucial to the success of the operation, praising the professionalism and prompt response of the Grand-Bassam Police.
