The Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) has concluded the distribution of school materials to several schools in Bo-Waterside and Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County.

The initiative forms part of a school support project under the African Union (AU)-funded program for flood victims, Liberian returnees, and refugees.

Targeting Montserrado, Bong, and Grand Cape Mount counties, the project aims to benefit 350 school-going children with essential learning materials.

Speaking at the launch of the distribution exercise at the Government Demonstration Elementary School in Grand Cape Mount, LRRRC Deputy Executive Director for Administration,  Massa Gray-Kromah, explained that the support is directed to parents whose homes were destroyed by floods and who are unable to meet their children’s immediate school needs.

She noted that the project also provides financial assistance to parents whose children are currently out of school.

In Grand Cape Mount County alone, 115 students from 12 schools are expected to benefit.

On behalf of school principals, Mr. Charles Kromah, Principal of the Government Demonstration Elementary School, expressed gratitude to the LRRRC and emphasized that the materials will encourage parents to send their children to school and motivate students to remain engaged in learning.

Administrative Assistant to the District Education Office, Mustafa Saysay, described the exercise as a means of empowering children to stay in school, urging parents to especially support the education of girls.

At Bo Community School, one of the parents, Elijah Sesay thanked the AU for its funding and commended the LRRRC for implementing the project.

Launched in November 2025 in Robertsport, the eight-month program—titled “Strengthening and Supporting the Resilience of Refugees/Returnees Flood Victims in Liberia”—aligns with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda and the AU’s Agenda 2063. The project originated from a 2024 AU assessment of refugee and flood conditions.

The program provides education support for children from flood-affected families, reintegration aid for vulnerable households, psychosocial counseling, workshops, and limited medical interventions to address trauma and promote social cohesion.
