Diplomatic tensions recently flared between Liberia and Guinea following the seizure of construction equipment by Guinean soldiers on Liberian soil, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred on March 2 near the Sorlumba border crossing, where bulldozers and dump trucks working on the Foya-Vahun road and local street-paving projects were confiscated.

The move has disrupted infrastructure development in Liberia’s northern Lofa County and raised concerns over sovereignty and security.

Liberia’s Local Government Minister, Francis S. Nyumaline, convened an emergency meeting with Guinean counterparts, stressing the urgency of diplomatic and security measures to safeguard Liberian territory.

Guinea’s delegation, led by Border Affairs Officer Mamadou Diarra, expressed regret over the incident and pledged cooperation in resolving the matter.

Meanwhile, residents of Foya have voiced frustration on social media and local radio, demanding swift government action to protect national interests and ensure the continuation of stalled development projects.

A high-level bilateral meeting is scheduled for March 12, where both governments are expected to review investigative findings and negotiate a framework for joint border monitoring aimed at preventing future disputes.

So far, there has been no further information since the last incident.
