The Liberia National police say it has arrested about 112 persons, mainly young people in connection with April 1 burning down of police stations and a magisterial court in Bong County central Liberia.

The riot followed a suspected murder of a motorcyclist whose body was found near a bush on March 7.

According to the LNP, angry motorcyclists barricaded roads leading from Gbarnga Bong County to Kakata, Margibi with burning tyres and other missiles making the town ‘ungovernable’. Police spokesman Moses Carter told state radio ELBC on Tuesday that the suspects are being detained at the national police headquarters in Monrovia awaiting trial.

“We now have about 112 of those who destroyed the police station yesterday in Weala in our custody in Monrovia”, Mr. Carter added.” More arrests will be made and those perpetrators will be brought to justice”, Carter further stated in an interview.

Several other suspects are said to be at large while at the same time police has launched a vigorous search.

Motorcyclists and violent

Motorcyclists in Liberia are often noted for violent demonstration in demand for justice whenever a member of their group is victimized.

It can be recalled that in April 2015, the commercial district of Paynesville Red-light came to a standstill after a motorcyclist was killed by a police officer along GSA road junction.

Another fierce motorcyclists’ demonstration took place in 2016 in the densely populated city of Ganta, Nimba County that led to destruction of millions of dollar worth of properties.
