The Liberia Media for Democratic Initiative (LMDI), a non-governmental organization is conducting a forum in the RiverCess County intended to solicit views from citizens on electoral matters.
The dialogue is a nationwide consultative platform is aimed at gathering citizens’ views on major electoral reforms.
The forum will is also expected to go to Sinoe, Grand Kru, River-gee and Maryland counties.
Phase one of the forum which is sponsored by Internews-Liberia with funding for USAID, was held at the Cestos City Hall, in Cestos City Monday, April 1. At the forum Rivercess citizens spoke on several issues that needed change on electoral procedures and process in Liberia.
Among concerns raised, the citizens called for the reduction of tenure of members of the House of Representatives and the Liberian senate from 6 to 4 years and 9 to 6 years respectively. They also recommended appointed officials of government should relinquish current position consistent with the 2014 code of conduct for public officials.
They further stated that the accusation against the National Elections Commission (NEC) arising election matter should not be investigated by the commission and also want the election date in Liberia be changed to a month in the dry season due deplorable road condition in the rainy season.
Meanwhile, the platform will continue Wednesday at the Cestos City Hall with quizzing competition between Cestos High School and Yarpah Town Public School.
According to LMDI officials, Sinoe County will be the next venue for the dialogue.
