A Teacher at the Cestos High School in Rivercess Country, south eastern Liberia is said to be on the run after allegedly raping a 14-year old Girl.
The 14-year old student was allegedly raped on January 26, this year by teacher Kumamenie Cooper.
According to the victim’s Mother, Lydia Brown, her daughter was threatened by the perpetrator, Kumamenie Cooper, not to reveal the issue until she fell sick.
Madam Brown said the alleged rape took place in January this year, but her daughter finally revealed the situation on Monday, June 10.
She noted that the delay by Policeman, Emmanuel Mendeh, who was presiding over the case, might have led to the escape of perpetrator.
Madam Brown said the case is stilled on the docket of the women and children unit of the Liberia National police Detachment in Cestos City Rivercess County.
Liberia Public Radio correspondent quoted that pursuing the case, a commissioner of the local government in Rivercess County, Matthew Glassco and a teacher of Cestos High School, Charles Teah, engaged her to compromise the case by withdrawing it from the Police and do community settlement.
Because she’s seeking Justice for her daughter, Madam Brown said she refused to listen to the two men to withdraw the case from the Police.
She is however calling on right groups and the Government of Liberia to go after the perpetrator and bring him to Justice.
Madam Brown, is at the same time, appealing for assistance to help her daughter recover from the trauma and the effect of the rape.
Few years back, the Liberian Government, under the administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, legislated tougher rape law making statutory rape non-bailable but the crime is still on the increased.
