Citizens of Karnplay City in Gbehlay Geh District have complained of a lack of electricity and budgetary support for the health facility.

Speaking to Liberia Public Radio on behalf of the citizens after a mass meeting over the weekend, Alison Paygar disclosed that the Karnplay Health Center has been operating for the past two years without electricity.

The Health Center is currently serving Twah River and Gbehlay Geh Districts with referrals from various catchment communities.

Lamenting on the status of the Health Center, Mr. Paygar further explained that it is not benefitting from the national budget.

He narrated that the lack of budgetary support for almost two years to the center is making things unbearable for the smooth running of the health center.

The Community Representative to the health center agreed that the lack of electricity has caused snakes to bit nurseries at night when they are performing their duties to save lives.

He maintained that some solar panels were installed but later went off due to low budgetary support to maintain the panels.

“The users can use flashlight and their phones light to administer IV lines when the patient is admitted at night”

Paygar mentioned that they heard that money was allocated for the clinic in the national budget, but don’t know where it went.

He revealed that of recent, District # 3 & 1  lawmakers Joseph Sonwaiba and Jeremiah Kung disclosed that the clinic was capture in this budget year.

Commenting further, Paygar claimed that the only ambulance the health center have has outlived its usefulness, adding that it was given to the center since 2009.

“This one ambulance has stayed long with us now and is quick to break down especially when patients have on board to either transfer them to the G. W. Harley Hospital or have been brought for other surrounding communities.”

He said the citizen’s meeting was to find solutions to pay the old bills owed by the center and try to restore electricity at the clinic for putting a stop for the reoccurrence of snake bitting users.

The Community Representative to the health center told LPR that they will shortly have a really to raise funds to restore the light to help users to freely move at night to cater to patients.
