The Government of the United States of America through its Embassy near Monrovia has condemned the Council of Patriots for its announced July 24 protest.

A communication under the signature of  US Ambassador assigned to Liberia Christine Elder, states that “while the US Embassy supports the rights of citizens to lawfully apply to assemble or convey their views to elected officials, the intent to do so during the week of July 22 is misplaced”.

The US Embassy meanwhile commended COP for the peaceful conduct of thousand of patriots who by their actions on June 7 conveyed they are interested in progress and national dialogue over aggression or demands.

The Council of Patriots last week announced that it was planning a protest for the second time on July 24, but since the pronouncement several persons have condemned the latest move by the group.

On Tuesday Deputy presidential press secretary Smith Toby described COP ‘unacceptable’and called on the group to desist from such action.
