Bearly 24 hours after the US Embassy near Monrovia issue a Communication describing the Council of patriots planed July 24 protest as “misplaced”, the Council of Patriots   has rescheduled its protest.

Issuing their press conference in Monrovia at Roots FM on Friday morning at a local Radio station owned and operated by the Chairman of the Council of patriots Herny P. Costa, the COP announced that they are not boycotting their planed protest, but respecting the request of the U.S. Ambassador statement.

They claimed that America has a long outstanding relationship with Liberia, as such; it was prudent to listen to the request of the country’s development partner.

“For the sake of peace and respect for our international partners, we have decided to shift the planed July 24 planed protest to July 31.”

COP further extended thanks and gratitude to the US Ambassador for commending them for the manner in which they peaceful assemble and conducted themselves during the June 7 protest.

The communication from the U.S. ambassador assigned to Libera, Christine Elder after disclosing that the date set aside by COP was misplaced, further commended them for their peaceful assembly during the June 7 protest.

“We commend the peaceful conduct of thousands of patriots who by their actions on June 7 conveyed they are interested in progress and national dialogue over aggression or demands”.

Thousands gathered at the Capitol on June 7 to protest

COP also called on Liberians to boycott this year July 26 celebration in expressing their anger against the Howard Taylor – Weah led government.

They claimed that the July 31 protest will be a nation wide protest unlike the June 7 that was only done in the nation’s capital.

COP expressed frustration over the President perpetual refusal to respond to their petition written to his office.

“Nothing will stop us from protesting on July 31st,”  COP concluded.

It can be recalled that on June 7, 2019 COP staged a massive protest in Monrovia which was described as one of the biggest protest in postwar Liberia.
