The chairman of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah Morlu has strongly criticized the government of President George Weah for the current economic nightmare  facing Liberia.

Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu has also strongly condemned  Weah’s appointment of people, who he termed “underachievers that would eventually undermine his administration government.”

He said there are many incompetent individuals that were appointed by the Weah led-administration who are not doing the right thing for the government to succeed.

Chairman Morlu told a news conference Tuesday that it is now appropriate for a radical shift, where the leadership needs to ensure that competent and qualified members of the tripartite coalition are fully reflected in the governance process of the country.

Morlu stated: “It is embarrassing and shameful for the socio-economic disparity to continue to widen between the haves and have-nots, while we are expected to remain silent”.

The Coalition for Democratic Change is made up of three parties, including the National Patriotic Party (NPP) and Liberia People Democratic Party (LPDP).

Morlu at the same time called on President Weah to commission a comprehensive audit of the current and past administrations so as to establish the facts surrounding the country’s resources, and how it has been used in recent years.

He said  some government officials   have acquired real estate in the relative short period of time they have served in the government. However,  Morlu failed to name some government officials who have gotten rich over short period of time but said these ill-gotten wealth need to be explained.

Weah must succeed

In response to Chairman Mulbah Morlu press Tuesday’s statement, former CDC secretary General now lawmaker Acarous Moses Gray said there are some individuals within government that are undermining the administration but the government will not be deterred.

Representative Acarous Gray told the Truth Breakfast Show on Wednesday December 11, 2019  that Chairman Morlu will remain chair of the ruling party until a new convention is held and there is no plan to remove him because of his criticism against the Weah government.

Since his statement on Tuesday Deccember 10, 2019, some members within the ruling CDC party have  suggested that Chairman Mulbah Morlu be removed from the chairmanship for openly criticizing his own administration but Rep. Gray who is also a  founding member of the CDC said they will ensure that Morlu end his tenure successfully and will not be removed through any undemocratic means.

He admitted that the Weah administration is challenged and the party will do everything possible to ensure that the government is successful in line with the party manifesto. Representative Gray added that there are some individuals in the  Weah administration that international community does not want to work with because of their tainted character.
