Lofa county has qualifed to the quarterfinals of the 2019/2020 national county Sports meet for the first time after being forced to a 1-1 draw by Bong County.
Lofa is serving as host of zone “B”, a group describe as zone of death in the National County meet.
Bong and Ninba have reached to quarterfinals from the zonal stage on many times in the history of National County meet.
Surprisingly, Lofa on January 5, 2020 defeated Nimba 1- 0 to secure 3 points after many sports pundits doubted their ability of winning Nimba.
This year’s county meet was officially opened on January 4 with Grand Bassa county going River Cess ending zero all.
Match day 2 saw a surprise with all most all the counties drawing against each other accept Gbapolu that defeated host Grand Cape Mount 1 – 0.
Bong County should have done the damage to Lofa county after striker Emmanuel Francis was brought down in the penalty box, thus allowing centre referee Slyvanet Garnett awarding a penalty. But that hope was dashed by Bong captain and long serving goalkeeper Lincoln Gbaindah who hit the ball on the post.
For Zone B in Voinjima city in Lofa county, host Lofa was force to a 1 all draw by Bong County in the dying minutes of the game.
