The 21-year-old defender has been handed a late call up by Coach Peter Butler for Liberia- Lone Star 2022 World Cup qualifying fixtures in few days.

PEC Zwolle youngster Pabai has been called up to the Liberian national football team, the club announced on Monday via it social media page.

“Coach Butler has named the youngster [Pabai] in his squad for the World Cup qualifying back to back games against Cape Verde. Also included is Sacramento Republic forward – Patrick Weah and CS Moiveni striker Moussa Sanoh, whom are all set to debut for Liberia,” Liberian Sports International can confirmed.

Pabai, who was born Netherlands, but parents are from Liberia, He had previously turndown opportunity to play for Liberia, stating professional reason.

 He made 60 appearances for Jong FC Utrecht between 2018-2021 scoring three goals.

The defender, who turns 21 in September, will look to bring some taste to the Lone Star defence in the absence of Spanish-born Joel Johnson who has been overlook this time around. Pabai, who was born in Wijk bij Duurstede, joined PEC Zwolle from  Eereste Divisie side Jong Utrecht earlier this season and immediately hit the ground running.

He had made three appreance for PEC Zwolle this season, and would compete with Real Balompédica Linense fullback Jeremy Saygbe, Carlos Williams of Watanga for any of the fullback positions in coach Butler prefer 3-5-2 formation.

Liberia play a doubled-header games with Cape Verde Islands between October 6-10, 2021 as they strives for their first ever FIFA World Cup finals appearance – the Lone Star is currently seated second place in Group C on three points from two matches.
