Edith Gongole-Weh to be a “formidable candidate” in Nimba midterm 2020 senatorial election

Former Nimba County Superintendent Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh has reaffirmed her participation in the upcoming October senatorial elections in Liberia, saying it is now time to serve her people.

Making the disclosure to our reporter on Tuesday January 14, 2020 via mobile phone in Sanniquellie, Madame Edith Gongloe- Weh disclosed that she will be a “formidable candidate” in the upcoming special senatorial elections in the county. 

Madame Gongloe-Weh revealed that she has received numerous of calls from citizens in and out of the country to contest one of the highest seats of the county. 

The Former Nimba County Superintendent further explained that the people of Yarwin Menhsonnoh in District # 9 have decided to petition her Saturday January 18, 2020 in the District. 

Madam Gongloe Weh who is the second female superintendent of Nimba claimed that her record as superintendent of the county is “unmatched” with anyone of her would-be contestants.  

She also mentioned that this is the time to give women of the county the opportunity serve at the house of elders [the Liberian senate].

The tough talking former superintendent also disclosed that when given the space to serve, the voice of the county will be heard and also  promised to ensure that the feet of the Executive is  be kept on fire for the right thing to be done. 

Madame Edith Gongloe-Weh has lost the senatorial post on two separate occasions to Senator Thomas Grupee in 2011 and senator Prince Yormie Johnson in 2014 respectively taking second place in all the elections.

According to her now is the  right time for her because   traditionally women have three chances to always try on issues.

Meanwhile, Madame  Gongloe-Weh is at the same time calling on the county authority to give account of the sales of scrap metal left behind by LAMCO during their mining operations in the early 80s.  

She asserted that citizens of the county have to question their leaders to properly explain and give account on how proceed generated from the scrap sale was used. 

She expressed frustration that affected communities in the operation of the scrap area are not benefiting from the scrap the sale. 

The Former superintendent also revealed that some illegal mining activities are currently taking place in District #8 something she frowned at and calling on the county authority to put a stop to. 

“There is a company carrying on exploration in District number 8 and our leaders have to put and stop to them and have a proper discussion for our people to benefit from them”, she adds.
