Liberia confirmed COVID-19 cases jump to 91

Liberia currently has 1,416 confirmed cases

Liberia on Sunday April 19, 2020 recorded 10 new COVID-19 cases, including one new death, bringing the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 91, including seven recoveries and eight deaths.

The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) in its latest situation report said nine of the new cases are from Montserrado, and one is from Nimba County that has so far recorded two cases of coronavirus.

The report further stated that the new death is a health care worker, who died at treatment center.

At  least  19 health care workers have so far being tested positive for the virus, with 221, including 22 from Nimba listed as contacts.

Montserrado County remains the epicenter of the virus with 88 confirmed cases reported, while Nimba has registered it second case after a local journalist from the voice of Tapita Radio Station was tested positive and Grand Kru with one case.

Fourty-one samples, according to NPHIL were collected for testing on Sunday April 19, 2020 and ten was come out positive.

Meanwhile  Liberian legislature has approved the state of emergency nearly 10 days after it declared by President George Weah.

President Gorge Manneh Weah has earlier declared a 21 day state of Emergency but in their modification, the legislature extended it to 60 days –infusing several other things.

The action was intended to curb the spread of  the virus across the country.
