In an effort to intensify the fight against the deadly novel Coronavirus in Nimba County, a consortium of non-governmental organizations in electoral District#9 has presented LRD$30,380.00 or US$155.00 to the District COVID-19 Task Force.
The donation was done in collaboration with Nimba District#9 COVID-19 official awareness team headed by Dr. Quayikeh Yoewah along with SAMBLET Liberia and Konah & Yohn Twin survival Aid as well as Women Empowerment Forum
Making the presentation at a brief ceremony at the residence of District#9 Representative Johnson N. Gwaikolo Tuesday April 21, 2020, the Executive Director of Women Empowerment Forum, madam Laura Bee Kiekpo said the amount was their initial way of contributing to the fight against COVID-19 in Yarwin Mehnsonnoh District.
She said as citizens hailing from Electoral District decided to join the fight against the virus because cases of the virus are now increasing daily and they saw the need to empower the taskforce financially.
“we need to give them tools to work with, and one way we can do it is to give the taskforce this little amount of money”, madam Kiekpo adds.
“If we don’t empower them their work will be dormant. The reason why we collected this amount is for our people in the district to have clean hands as our motto says”, she continued.
Madam Kiekpo at the same time admonished well-meaning Liberians especially citizens hailing from the district to emulate their example by joining the fight against COVID-19 to save lives.
For his part, Nimba District#9 Representative Johnson N. Gwaikolo has lauded the NGO consortium in the district for their effort towards the fight against COVID-19.
Rep. Gwaikolo disclosed that initially, his office has made available to the district several anti-corona materials to help eradicate the virus from the district.
At least one from Zoutou town located in District #9 Nimba County was recently confirmed positive for COVID-19 but later died at the Tappita regional referral hospital.
“We are calling on everybody to make a contribution to save life. It is about time we all join hands to support the taskforce”, Representative Gwaikolo noted.
“Our people on the ground know where the hotspots are, so we need to support them with everything we have. They need our support to work”, the lawmaker added.
He added that his office is working tirelessly to ensure that the district COVID-19 taskforce remains vigilant and aimed at eradicating the virus.
