The Life for African Mothers has urged pregnant women to seek medications from health facilities amidst the fight against COVID-19 in the country.
According to the Country Representative of the Life for African Mothers, Abdul-Rahman F. Bah, pregnant women and baby mothers should always seek medical treatment to health facilities rather than self-medication due to fear of the fight against COVID -19 currently in the nation.
Mr. Bah made the statement May 8, 2020 in an exclusive interview with Liberia Public Radio in Monrovia as Liberia is combating the global pandemic of COVID-19 which has no cure for now.
He stressed that pregnant women and baby mothers seeking medication at health facilities will prevent any form of complication during delivery and the growth of their new born babies.
He further stated that pregnant women abandoning health facilities as the result of the current health emergency will be detrimental to their health and their new born babies , but if they should go to health facilities and received adequate medical treatment could prevent any health complication .
Mr. Bah added that the organization has been working along with the Liberian Government in helping to provide some medications for health facilities in the 15 counties including the 14-Military Hospital.
He asserted that the Life for African Mothers has contributed immensely to the fight against COVID-19 through the Ministry of Health to ensure that this deadly disease is eradicated from Liberia.
He maintained that the organization has also engaged with the process of the health protocols about preventive measures against COVID-19 through awareness programs as well as providing food items, hands washing buckets and sanitary materials in various communities around the country.
Mr. Bah suggested that if government should completely lockdown the nation to combat COVID-19 than food items should be provided, constant electricity and water supply including essential medications to prevent other infectious diseases among the population.
It has been reported that many pregnant women in the country are now seeking home-treatment avoiding healthcare facilities for fear of being diagnosed with COVID-19.
