As Liberians observe their 3rd stay-home order as part of President George Manneh Weah state of Emergency declared on April 8, 2020, a lawmaker of Montserrado County has accused the some members of the executive branch of government of abusing power.

Making the accusation on Sunday May 10, 2020, Montserrado District#10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah said the state of emergency which was intended to tackle the fight against the deadly novel coronavirus has been used to “surprise and harass” the ordinary people by  president George Manneh Weah  and his close associates.

Making specific reference to recent demolition exercise by carried out by the Monrovia City Cooperation (MCC), Rep. Kolubah alleged that MCC head Mr. Jefferson Koijie is using the state of emergency period to put burden of the ordinary citizens by breaking down their market tables.

He added that it was wrong on the part of mayor Koijie to order the breaking down of market tables with goods belonging to poor marketers who are fetching for their daily bread.

The Montserrado lawmaker told a news conference that many of marketers are people who survive on daily sale breaking down their market tables has compounded their problems during this state of emergency people.

“The state of emergency was created to fight this virus, it was created to be used to harass, intimidate and suppress our poor people”, he adds.

“Yesterday I was on my way from Bomi I saw people crying at the Duala Market because their markets and homes were broken down because the   MCC went there. Their good and everything were in the shops and those places have been broken down by president Weah because he gave the order”, Rep. Kolubah explained.

Some people only go in the day to sell because

“President Weah we did not give you the state of emergency power to suppress our people”, Representative Kolubah stated.

Marketers being punished by president Weah?

Representative Yekeh Kolubah, strong critic of president Weah said the Liberian leader is ‘angry’ because marketers at the Duala Market and other areas which are being demolished by MCC did not vote for his choice of candidate during the Montserrado senatorial bye election in 2019.

According to him as a lawmaker, he will not remain mute to see such ‘inhumane’ act being carried out on the order of the President Weah.

“The manner in which you treating our people is not good, if you think we will sit and do not advocate for our people you are lying to yourself”, he further asserted.

Meanwhile Rep. Kolubah is commending his team of lawyers and supporters who stood by him during the recent court case at the criminal Court ‘A’.

Rep. Kolubah described the five count indictment against him as pure intimidation by the government of President George Weah.

It can be recalled that recently criminal Court ‘A’   Judge Roosevelt Willie handed down a non-guilty verdict against Rep. Yekeh Kolubah following months of legal proceedings at the court.
