COP Chairman, Menipakei Dumoe Incarcerated

Days following his controversial social media post, the acting Chairman of the Council of Patriots, Manipakei Dumoe home has been searched by police and detained him.  

On Sunday May 10, 2020 Mr. Dumoe posted on his facebook page  that the poor people inclusive of him do not  need the distribution of bags of rice but  AK 47s instead.

The comment by Mr. Dumoe, the COP acting Chairman however generated several condemnations with just few persons in favor were terming  his  arrest a “witch hunt”.

But on Tuesday, the Police along with sheriff allegedly invaded the home of Mr. Dumoe, searching for lethal weapon along with other essential items.

The search and seizure exercise which was initially broadcast live on front page Africa Facebook page a copy of which was obtained by Liberia Public Radio but later got interrupted after Lennart Dodoo Africa Page Africa’s editor mobile phone that used to go live.

Lawyer disappointed in police action

The lawyer of Mr. Menipakei Dumoe, the acting leader of the Council of Patriots (COP), Cllr. Findley Karngar, says his confidence in the Liberia National Police (LNP) has been betrayed.

Cllr. Karngar told OK FM after show that the police and lawyers have a special bond of speaking very clear to the other person when it comes to the arrest or call-in of their client(s) by the police.

“The police had the intention to have had my client arrested and they lied that we were only going for a conference”, he adds.

The COP’s lawyer even though stated that though he is going to continue to represent his client.

 He however, suggested that his client’s confidence in him (Karngar) might be fouled as he might be seen an assisting the police in his arrest.

Cllr. Kranger also told Ok FM that he is considering filing legal action against the police for betraying him.

Meanwhile Mr. Dumoe spent his first night behind bars pending more investigations.

It is not however clear why he was unable to obtain bond by his lawyer.

Critics of the Weah administration say such comment on social media was not the first time as many some prominent members of the ruling Coalition for Democratic change have made similar comment in the past.

Kla Edward Toomey,II posted on social media that Dumoe comment does not in any way insinuate violent act.

He posted: “Give the people AK-47 instead of free bags of rice”. Assuming he meant AK-47, is something the gov’t. would give?
