The Association of Liberians in South Sudan (ALISS) has joined war against the COVID- 19 pandemic by donating several medical supplies to the Ministry of Health.
ALISS is on record for always donating to the Ministry of Health during Ebola crisis in 2014.
Speaking during the donation ceremony at the Ministry of Health in Congo Town, on Wednesday the immediate past president of the Association of Liberians in South Sudan (ALISS) Madam Celia D. Turkett said they were delivering a consignment of medical supplies to the Ministry of Health as the association’s way joining the fight against this global nightmare COVID 19.
Madam Turkett and other compatriots in South Sudan and others part of the world, expressed their sincere gratitude to the Minister of Health, National public Health Institution of Liberia (NPHIL) and Heath practitioners for taking the driver seats in fighting this global worrior called coronavirus.
ALISS past president added they recognized the difficult and harsh constraints the Ministry is going through with this fight against the COVID 19 when our health sectors already challenged.
Given that this pandemic entered in all countries around the world without invitation, every nation is crying it’s own cry adding that with our already challenged health sector being pushed to the limit, the need to rally every dime and nickel to aid the government in COVID 19 cannot be overemphasized madam Turkett said.
According to her, those in the diaspora saw it fit to respond in this measure to lend their hands and hearts to the many efforts of the government to beat back this monster who doesn’t pick and choose and has put human race to imminent extinction if the fight is not wholistic and inclusive.
“Further, in this cause, we have come to aid the process in fighting the pandemic and as a small team of compatriots outside Liberia, they were able to raised a little over 4KUSD to purchase those medical supplies and equipment”, she added .
Materials donated to the Ministry of Health are several rain boots and coats, face and nose masks, gloves, alcohol, Hand sanitizers, Clorax, PPE, disinfectants, rice among others.
ALISS is a gathering of Liberians working in South Sudan in East Africa and they are spread all over South Sudan working for several international organizations.
The Association has done several works back home to include the construction of hand pump, school supplies, food and toiletries to orphanages among others.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Heath Dr. Willimena Jallah who on behalf of the Ministry extends gratitude to the Association of Liberians in South Sudan.
Dr. Jallah in the fight of this disease it has be a challenge for them where as they have three categories of people namely Believers, none believers and middle believers of COVID 19.
The Health Minister boss encouraged the Association team to carry the message that COVID 19 is real and urged everyone to properly wear their nose masks in order to beat the coronavirus and therefore those materials given to the Ministry will be turn to the treatment unit where it will be used for it’s intended purpose.
